The Thunderhawk girl’s cross country team brought home a title this past weekend at the King’s Duals held at Kingswood Park in Deerfield Township, giving them some much-needed confidence heading into the post-season.
The Lakota East women were paired up with an evenly matched team in the Anderson Raptors. While Anderson had the overall champion of the race, the Thunderhawk women ran well enough as a team to pull off the win in the 30-athlete race.
Junior, Jocey Willis led the way for East by placing 2nd overall in 20:20.5 for the 5k (3.1-mile) course. Senior teammate, Dani Thorner ran a season-best time of 20:37.6 to place 3rd overall on a course that was not producing very fast times on the day.
The #3 runner for the Hawks was senior, Sarah Renfro who placed 5th overall in 21:31.0 which was also a season-best performance. The next East runner across the line was junior, Hope Keith, placing 7th overall in 21:52.1. And rounding out the scoring for Lakota East was freshman, Emme Nguyen, who ran a great race to place 9th overall in 22:24.2
Next up for Lakota East Cross Country is the Greater Miami Conference Championships on October 16th at Voice of America Park in West Chester, OH.
